As the capital dty of Guangdong province, Guangzhou is the center of the whole province's politics,economy, science and technology, education and culture. Near to South China Sea and adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao, Guangzhou lies in the South of Mainland China. It's not only a famous historical and cultural city of China with a history of 2200 years, but a national central city, an international trade center, a comprehensive transportation hub, an important hub city of the Belt and Road and the central city of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-macao Greater Bay Area. It has an administrative area of 7434.4 square kilometers and a permanent population of 14.5 million, covering a permanent resident population of 20 milion. Its GDP of 2018 was 2.3 trillion yuan, up 6.2 percent year on- year, with per capita GDP exceeding $20,000.

Guangzhou boasts a world-class airport, seaport and railway transportation hub, which provides access to the whole world. Baiyun International Airport completes a passenger-throughput of nearly 7o million person-times annually while Guangzhou Port ranks fifth in the world in container through-put. Guangzhou has an extensive communication with the world. Having 63 consulate generals of foreign countries in the city, and setting up friendly relations with 71 international cities, Guangzhou keeps close economic and trade contacts with more than 220 countries and regions worldwide. In addition, Guangzhou has a pleasant climate with a forest coverage rate of 42. 54% and was granted the title of"International Garden City"and the best example award for improving human habitat environment by the United Nations.

Guangzhou is also the most important convention and exhibition central city in China, with a total exhibition area of 10.2 million square meters in 2018. The world renowned Canton Fair has been held for 125 sessions in Guangzhou in the past 63 years, with an exhibition area of 1, 185,000 square meters each, attracting the attendance of 200, 000 overseas buyers from 215 countries.

Established in 2014, Guangdong 21stCentury Maritime Silk Road International Expo (hereinafter referred to as MSRE) aims at forging an international image for Guangdong that the province has been implementing the Belt and Road Initiative elaborately and making itself the best place for doing business and seeking cooperation. With 5 years’ cultivation and growth, MSRE has gradually developed into an exhibition platform with higher influences in the countries and regions along the Belt and Road, which is increasingly speeding up its marching pace to internationalization, branding and marketization and enlarging its international circle of friends and influential power. From 2019 on, MSRE will be removed from Dongguan to Guangzhou.
